A Day Out

A day out to Aviemore to meet up with family who are on holiday there this week. It was a balmy 4C and too wet and windy to take any photos of the autumn colours which were a bit more advanced than home.

We took a run to Grantown-on-Spey where there is a small independent bookshop - The Bookmark - a rare and lovely thing indeed. Needless to say I now have a few more books to add to my reading list.

We also visited my favourite find of a few years ago, a community cooperative run collectables emporium. It is full of what can only be described of as treasure and is guarded by a large cat who would give Bagpuss a run for his money. No sign of the cat today, but there were lots of things I wanted to bring home. I was restrained and left with some books and a lovely pair of wooden knitting needles....

....and a promise to return soon.

Autumn Leaves

The day has started very blustery and wild. A day for wrapping up and keeping warm. A day for homemade soup and comfort food. A day for wood on the fire and a good book.

Among the many books I have on the go at the moment, I am reading H.E. Bates "Fair Stood the Wind for France". On the way to work last week there was a mackerel sky and it made me think of a line from a film or an old TV drama and the H.E. Bates book title popped into my head.

At this particular job my desk is surrounded by bookshelves and as I glanced through the titles I saw the very book. Chance, fate.....who knows? So I borrowed the book and I started reading it. Much to the dismay no doubt of the other titles on my bedside cabinet. It's a copy from 1980, hence the dodgy cover I guess, and it sold for the princely sum of £1.25.

However, today I am not giving in to the fire and a book, today I am off to spend some time crafting with some friends. I didn't put the leaves on a basket yesterday after all. Instead I turned them into a mobile with the help of an embroidery hoop.

Not sure what project I want to work on today, I've a few patterns I want to try out and some lovely yarn that needs to be used.

A Beginning

Well here goes.

A day at home and I was tidying up the table and changing the tablecloth and I decided it was time. I needed to stop talking about it and actually do it. So here I am. I have a blog.

Well that wasn't too hard.

It's an inside sort of day and it feels very autumnal, so I am bringing a bit of the outside colour indoors and finishing off my leaves. The pattern I used is here Lion Brand. The yarn I used is a current favourite Wool Cotton by Rowan- it is so nice to work with. I think the leaves are destined for a basket, but I'll see how that works out later this afternoon.
